About the Business

Under The British Wool Marketing Scheme of 1950, the BWMB is required to register all producers with four or more sheep (with the exception of Shetland, which has its own arrangement). There are currently over 46,000 registered producers. The Board of 9 elected producer members, representing 9 different areas of the UK, and 2 Government appointees, meets eight times a year and reports back to nine regionally elected committees.

A year in farming is never dull, the last one for sheep farmers has seen enormous improvements in the value of sheep meat, despite the World going through the worst financial crisis since the 1930's. Much of the increase in our sheep meat price has been on the back of a very weak currency and this has also helped us to sell the wool clip.
